Last Updated: June 02, 2025

Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how MindSnap ("we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, and shares information in connection with your use of our browser extension (the "Extension"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have a positive experience while using our Extension.

Information Collection and Use

Information We Collect

MindSnap is designed to respect your privacy. We collect minimal information necessary for the functionality of the Extension:

  • Content You Process: When you use the Extension to generate mind maps from web content, that content is temporarily processed.
  • API Keys: If you choose to use your own AI provider API keys (such as for OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini), these are stored locally in your browser's secure storage.
  • Extension Settings: Your preferences and settings for the Extension are stored locally in your browser's storage.
  • Mind Maps: Mind maps you create are stored locally in your browser's storage to enable the auto-save and restore functionality.

How We Use Information

We use the information we collect strictly for providing and improving the Extension's functionality:

  • Content Processing Text you select or URLs you provide are processed solely to generate mind maps. This processing happens either:
    • Locally within your browser
    • Through the selected AI provider's API (if you've configured an API key)
  • Storage: Your mind maps and settings are stored locally to provide features like auto-save, undo/redo, and persistent preferences.

Data Storage and Security

Local Storage

MindSnap primarily uses your browser's local storage capabilities:

  • Mind Maps: Created mind maps are stored locally in your browser and are not transmitted to our servers.
  • Settings: Your preferences and configurations are stored locally and are not transmitted to our servers.
  • API Keys: Any API keys you enter are stored securely in your browser's local storage and are only used to make direct calls to the respective service.

Third-party Services

When you use an AI provider's services through MindSnap:

  • API Connections: If you configure MindSnap to use an AI provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, etc.), the selected text or content is sent directly to that provider's API using your provided API key.
  • Third-party Privacy Policies Please be aware that when you use these third-party services, their own privacy policies apply to the information processed through their APIs:

Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not share your personal information with third parties except in the following limited circumstances:

  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
  • Protection of Rights: We may disclose your information to protect our rights, privacy, safety, or property, and that of our users or the public.
