This Privacy Policy describes how MindSnap ("we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, and shares information in connection with your use of our browser extension ("the Extension"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have a positive experience while using our Extension.

Information We Collect

MindSnap is designed to be privacy-conscious. We only collect the minimum information necessary for the Extension's functionality:

• Content You Process: When you use the Extension to create a mind map from web content, that content is processed temporarily.
• API Keys: If you choose to use your own AI provider API key (like OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini), it is stored locally in your browser's secure storage.
• Extension Settings: Your preferences and settings for the Extension are stored locally in your browser's storage.
• Mind Maps: The mind maps you create are stored locally in your browser's storage to enable auto-save and restore functionality.
• Anonymous Usage Analytics (optional): When analytics are enabled (default on; turn off in Settings), we collect anonymous product events such as install/update, generate success/failure, and error diagnostics. We do not send API keys, page content, or mind map contents to analytics.

How We Use Information

We use the information we collect solely to provide and improve the functionality of the Extension:

• Content Processing The text you select or the URL you provide is processed only to generate a mind map. This processing occurs either:
  • Locally within your browser
  • Via the selected AI provider's API (if you have configured an API key)
• Storage: Your mind maps and settings are stored locally to provide features like auto-save, undo/redo, and preference storage.
• Product Improvement: Anonymous analytics (when enabled) help us understand which features work and diagnose failures.

Data Storage and Security

Local Storage

MindSnap primarily uses your browser's local storage capabilities:

• Mind Maps: The mind maps you create are stored locally in your browser and are not transmitted to our servers.
• Settings: Your preferences and configurations are stored locally and are not transmitted to our servers.
• API Keys: Any API keys you enter are stored securely in your browser's local storage and are only used to make direct calls to the respective service.

Third-Party Services

When you use an AI provider's service through MindSnap:

• API Connection: If you configure MindSnap to use an AI provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, etc.), the selected text or content is sent directly to that provider's API using the API key you provide.
• Google Analytics: When analytics are enabled, anonymous usage events are sent to Google Analytics 4. See Google's Privacy Policy.

User Rights and Choices

Your Control Over Your Data

You have several options to control your data:

• Delete Local Data: You can clear all locally stored data from the Extension's settings page.
• Manage API Keys: You can add, change, or delete your API keys at any time.
• Analytics Opt-Out: Open Settings in the Extension and turn off Usage analytics.
• Extension Removal: Uninstalling the Extension will delete all locally stored data related to MindSnap from your browser. You may also see a short optional feedback survey.

Children's Privacy

MindSnap is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. Your continued use of the Extension after any changes indicates your acceptance of the new Privacy Policy.
